‘Why don’t you go to sea?! Wow, that was a statement; this would never have entered my mind and in all innocence asked, ‘Is that possible?’ ‘That’s no problem, all you have to do is get your passport and seaman’s book and there you go!’ After work and on my way home (and until today I didn’t know what came over me) I decided to see my Nan and told her as to what had happened and this bizarre suggestion in going to sea! ‘Why is it bizarre, Nan asked ‘I don’t know!’ Although I was born near the water and cycled many times to the harbour of Rotterdam and seeing the large passenger liners neatly moored behind one another, and powerful tugs manoeuvring large cargo liners into their berth; but I never dreamed in going on the water myself. To be honest, I was slightly scared of water and I didn’t swim too well either!
