Here is a quick demo of Volkl Revolt 114 in moguls and on two small drops. These are 191 cm long and 114 cm wide. I am 5' 11" and 183. At first, I was concerned that the Volkl revolt 114 in 191 was too stiff a ski and too long. After my 4rd day on the ski, I am confident that I made the right choice in length and stiffness. Why I bought them I wanted a ski that I could rely on to be as stable as possible in high-speed high high-consequence situations. I wanted a ski that would help me take my freeride skills to the next level. First Day Conditions: Hard-packed conditions Rating: 3/10 Not ideal There was a big learning curve for me, I have never skied anything over 100 underfoot and this was a big difference. Also, the snow conditions for the day were not ideal for this ski, it hadn't snowed at the bird for a week or two and was hard-packed moguls. I wasn't super happy tbh, I felt clumsy and didn't feel super confident. Second Day Conditions: Soft settled crud and a few small drops Rating: 8/10 Great The ski performed great in crud, I was still hesitant from the first day so didn't completely open them up. The ski really wants to be in the fall line on drops (so do I). When landing out of the fall-line I was spun around as the ski wanted to shoot back up the hill and had the power to buck me around. Not sure if this was entirely the ski's fault as I was making a mistake by not landing in the fall line, but it was a new feeling for me. Third-Day Conditions: Spring ice crud conditions Rating: 2/10 Horrible for this ski. My less stiff shorter Rossignol Black Ops, performs much better. For the Volkl, when the stiff shovel connects with stiff ice crud it transfers all the force immediately and starts flapping up and down all over the place. Not sure I'd ever ski these conditions more than a run to get to better conditions, home, or in a freeride competition, but between the longer ski and unforgiving flex, expect to make things 10x harder in these conditions. Fourth Day Conditions: 24+ inches of fresh pow pow. The day I shot this video Rating: 10/10 Skiied some big fast lines and some technical lines. Soft moguls and deep powder. I didn't really have a problem smashing some bumps or skiing some technical lines, and the skis really excelled when the speed got super fast after drops. I have never felt so confident on my landings. Which I am sure is somewhat due to the -7 cm team binding mounting and the large difference in tip width to tail width. See this video for a cliff drop and fast runout (40-50 mph according to Strava) as well as some soft moguls/skied out powder - • Snowbird | Silver Fox Series - Hanging Bow... Conclusion Buy this ski if you... Live in an area that has big terrain with plenty of snowfall and you already have an all-mountain or park ski in the 100 range Are planning on skiing really aggressively on big terrain Have solid short-turn technique and want to ski over 40 mph (cliff drop to run out type situation) Don't buy this ski if you... Are not confident with your short turns Only want a one-ski quiver Don't want to use it to its full potential I have the Rossignol Holyshred Black Ops as my hard-packed all-mountain ski in 184 cm. I would like to add one more all-mountain ski in the 106-110 range like the Salomon QST or the Rossignol Sender Free 110 for days when snow conditions don't allow high speeds and I need more finess. If you only want one ski, I'd probably choose one of these more all-mountain-oriented skis over the Volkl Revolt.
