Monday midday tropical update: Hurricane Eta expected to become a major category-4 storm

Hurricane Eta is now a major Category 3 hurricane in the Caribbean Sea. It will likely continue to rapidly intensify into a Category 4 hurricane by Monday night. Landfall is expected in Nicaragua on Tuesday with 140 mph winds. This will bring incredible wind, devastating storm surge and torrential rains to Central America as Eta slowly moves over the mountainous terrain. The mountains could cause Eta to dissipate, so we will watch for this to happen. Forecast models are showing either Eta's circulation or a piece of the circulation will move back into the Caribbean next weekend and redevelop. The models are uncertain as to where this new circulation will go. They range from the Caribbean to southeast Gulf of Mexico to crossing Cuba and going out into the Atlantic.
