“When I cross the finish line, I think, “Wow I’m not alone on my skis” and a lot people say “I cry for you” and for me I just do my sport, my passion, and when you realise that a lot a of people are inspired by your career, by your medals, it’s crazy.” History Maker Marie Bochet is a French Alpine skier and Paralympic Champion. She began her Paralympic career at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, where she competed in her first event, the downhill, at 16 years of age! In 2013, Bochet’s success continued when she became the first Athlete to complete the ‘Grand Slam’ – winning all five events at the Alpine World Ski Championships. Bochet also competed in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, where she won four gold medals and at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeong Chang, Bochet won four further gold medals. At the Pyeong Chang Games she is elected a member of the International Paralympic Committee and joins the athlete's commission. ‘History Makers’ is a series following some of the incredible athletes who have shaped the course of history in sport and have overcome great challenges to win.
