Impossible wood bending

In this project I bend my brain trying to bend wood for a new light fixture. I wanted a project that would push my technical skills to their limit. This project certainly did that. I built the light fixture out of cedar and walnut. It now hangs from the ceiling of my living room and achieves the perfect modern aesthetic that I was hoping for. One design element that I wanted to achieve was to have the outer bent lamination strips be continuous. No obvious joint. This turned out to be extremely difficult as a the lengths of the strips had to be very accurate, but I could not easily measure how long each successive layer should be because of the extreme curves. The wood had to be bent to fit in the form but once it was bent, I could not measure its length! I eventually figured it out after two failed attempts. I'm so happy with how the strips turned out and I'm glad I stuck it out through the failure. I hope you enjoy the video.
