Forgiveness as it relates to empathy and understanding.

In an earlier video, we talked about empathy and understanding and how understanding does not always equal empathy. Today I want to tie in the concept of forgiveness to that concept of understanding and empathy. Here is why. When somebody says they understand you, continually says they understand you, and you realize they do not empathize with you, I invite you to forgive them. Why should you forgive them? It is likely that they do not have the same experiences as you do. So, they cannot really relate. They can understand at an intellectual level but cannot empathize at an emotional level. That is not necessarily their fault. Sometimes it is when they refuse to empathize with you. However, often, it is because they do not have the same experiences and that is why you need to forgive them. Now forgiveness does not mean you need to keep them in your life. You can look at them and say, I forgive you for not empathizing with me. However, the stress that you are causing in my life, I just cannot deal with, I am not emotionally capable of dealing with it or I just do not want to deal with it anymore. So, remember when somebody says they understand you, and they do not empathize with you, over time I invite you to forgive them. Then decide whether that person is good for your mental health to stay in your life. Do this and you live a peaceful balanced happy life. You were born to live. And we will talk soon.
