Notes 1. Some relevant words of His Eminence from another sermon: -- A friend of mine [Hatziioannou] used to say to me, “Your Eminence, you are to be saved by [giving] sermons”. Because the “fame” [of the archbishop during the Divine Liturgy] says, “[And remember first O Lord, our Archbishop …] that he may rightly divide the word of Thy truth” [see also 2 Timothy 2:15]. That’s as far as the bishop is concerned. A priest will be saved if he commemorates a lot of names, not if he makes a lot of coffees. If he commemorates a lot of names and takes people out of hell. Because hell is not yet closed. Until the Second Coming it remains open! It has an elevator. A deacon will be saved if he is obedient to his superior instead of doing his own thing. How is the rich man saved? “With my money, I will ‘buy’ Heaven,” he [Hatziioannou] would tell me. This man raised so many orphans, he paid for schooling for so many children. He built 13 churches.
