Lymphedema

The lymphatic system, part of the body's circulatory system, comprises lymph nodes and channels that facilitate lymph fluid flow for immune defense and detoxification. Blood provides cells with nutrients while also collecting waste. The lymphatic system then reabsorbs and transports this fluid for elimination. In some cancers, the malignant cells spread via the lymphatic fluid to the lymph nodes, sometimes necessitating their surgical removal. The removal of lymph nodes can lead to lymphedema, or localized swelling, depending on the affected area - whether the underarm, pelvic/groin region, or face and neck.
