[multi mind] is a model for a laboratory de-signed to perform basic research on "new com-munication technologies". This experiment aims to synchronize technological, artistic and social development processes. The necessity to develop particularly new com-munication technologies not in a secluded laboratory but as a process located "in-society" is reflected by shifting it to the realm and lo-cation of modern art which has the potential to act as a catalyst and test ground for social developments. This move appears necessary today, because valid, precisely defined guiding themes for the steering of technological developments are missing increasingly and have to be co-developed in a parallel running iterative and highly complex societal discussion process. In the concrete setting at the Deichtorhallen, Hamburg an experimental communicationssystem is tested, which by the exchange of video signals binds the participants in a permanently lasting communication connection however having a very low intensity mostly and staying below a level of conscious interaction. - This approach plays an increasing role in the research on telepresence and the psychological compatibility of the increasing spatially separation of social groups who are instead linked electronically. - 16 mobile, i.e. wearable computer are connected via a wireless network to form a continuous communication system, inside which the individual sight of a communication partner can be assumed in addition to one's own. A stationary "monitor installation" is designed to visualize the progress of the experiment in the foyer of the exhibition space, in which also three photography exhibitions take place simultaneously.
