Recorded in May of 1969 just weeks before Mick Taylor officially joined the band. This is one of two songs on the album “Let It Bleed” to feature Mick’s guitar work. This song is also interesting because it’s the first to feature the great Bobby Keys on sax and is the only time Leon Russell would appear on a Stones recording. Both Russell and Nicky Hopkins contributed piano to this tune I absolutely love the bass guitar here played by Keith Richards. Charlie’s drumming is so driving and one of his more aggressive studio performances, in my opinion. Still plenty of finesse though. The bass drum pattern varies a ton throughout the song. I wouldn’t really say that there is a strict pattern. I like that he used the quarter notes on the snare as the anchor and allowed the bass drum to be a bit more free to improvise.
