People of the First Light - A History of Cape Cod | ASMR Soft Spoken

This video is probably the dearest to my heart, because it explores a place I have loved my entire life. It's where I go to feel like myself again when I'm overwhelmed or lost. Cape Cod is shifting, however, both economically and geologically, as I'll discuss in my video, as wild spaces become victims of extreme wealth. It's been hard to watch small, one-room or two-room cottages disappear, replaced by mega mansions that isolate themselves from the true beauty of the wild while damaging its ecosystems. This video is as much an attempt to preserve a place before it disappears as it is to show you a place that I love. I hope that you enjoy this place as much as I have. I've included sections from one of my favorite works of nature writing - The Outermost House, by Henry Beston. I highly suggest you purchase and read the book. The music behind the track was composed by a good friend of mine on the electric guitar. If you ever want to visit the Cape, I suggest going in the winter, when spaces are empty and feel as powerful as they might have been 20,000 years ago. Happy watching!
