Spice Girls: 'Wherever We Go, We Make The Best Situation Out Of Everything' | Interview | TMF

In 1996, the Spice Girls, an English girl group consisting of Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), were interviewed by Bridget Maasland, a TMF VJ. The Spice Girls were formed in 1994 through auditions and quickly gained creative control over their sound and image. Their debut single "Wannabe" was released in 1996, reaching number one in 37 countries. Their debut album, Spice, sold over 23 million copies worldwide and produced three more number-one singles. Their second album, Spiceworld, was another global success, selling over 14 million copies worldwide and achieving three number-one singles. Both albums encapsulated the group's dance-pop style and message of female empowerment, with vocal and songwriting contributions shared equally by the members. In 1997, the Spice Girls made their live debut concert tour and released a feature film, Spice World, both to commercial success. In 1998, they embarked on the Spiceworld Tour, becoming the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group. Halliwell left the group mid-tour in May 1998. Following a successful 1999 concert tour, the Spice Girls released their third album, Forever, featuring their ninth number-one single, "Holler"/"Let Love Lead the Way". They entered a hiatus at the end of 2000 to concentrate on their solo careers but reunited for two concert tours in 2007–2008 and 2019, both of which won the Billboard Live Music Award for highest-grossing engagements.
