Dry Trimming Cannabis Plant Material Professor DeBacco Dry Trimming Dry trimming requires more space, but allows growers to carry out the trimming process over a period of time. The dry trimming process involves cutting the plant down and then drying it to the desired moisture content is achieved at which point the actual trimming process will begin. Dry Trimming Benefits When trimming dry, plants are cut down and then dried so while the process will take a little longer (compared to wet rimming) the terpenes will be preserved to a greater degree. Then the trichomes will harden during the drying process which when it comes to trimming results in a cleaner process for the person doing the actual trimming. Dry Trimming Problems With dry trimming is increased risk of trichome damage while trimming simply because they are fragile when dried. This means growers need to take extra care when it comes to the handling of the buds during the trimming process. Growers also need space to hang their plants to allow them to dry for what could take a few weeks. Commercial Harvest When you dry your harvest and then trim, you'll achieve higher quality with a longer, slower drying period which preserve terpenes better. This process can be mechanized, but there is the potential for physical damage to the trichomes with this process. Overall the end product will be of higher quality (when compared to wet trimming) as long as there is the space to allow for proper drying.
