Arabic Music Middle East Mediterranean Guitar (Taksim Maqam Sikka) by Fernando Perez.

Here is something I learnt from master oud player Munir Basher. It is a Taqsim performed in a beautiful Maqam called Sikka. A Taqsim is a free improvisation presenting the colours and beauty of the Arabic musical mode known as Maqam. It is full of musical surprises since the listener is captivated by a melody which takes you into a exotic journey around sonorities of the most curious nature. In the guitar technical side I have worked out a way to play the Arabic microtones on the guitar by using fretlets or small guitar frets. The I use a special technique known as alzapua. It comes from Flamenco guitar playing. In this way I imitate the sound of the Arabic or Mediterranean oud. Sikka is one of those Maqamat which has a rare beauty. It takes a little to get used to it, specially if the listener is a person from the West. It contains many microns and musical phrases which don't give the resolving feeling which Western music has. However once you relax and listen to it, the sound becomes very special.
