Japan’s BEST Family Day Out? Exploring Kyoto Railway Museum 🚄 History, Fun & Learning!

Join us as we take a day trip from Osaka to Kyoto and explore the Kyoto Railway Museum, one of the most fun, educational, and family-friendly attractions in Japan! From the first-ever Shinkansen to interactive train exhibits, this museum is packed with history and hands-on experiences that kids and adults alike will love. We started the day traveling by train from Osaka and began exploring the outdoor exhibits, including historic locomotives, the first Shinkansen, and other trains with lots of historical presence. You can peek inside the carriages and see all the details — from seats and footrests to carpets and artifacts explaining how the Shinkansen came to be. Inside the museum, we explored: 1st Floor: 1️⃣ The history of locomotives and trains 2️⃣ Up-close train displays 3️⃣ Mechanics and engineering of trains 4️⃣ Interactive driving area — our toddler loved sitting in the driver’s seat and playing with the levers and buttons! 2nd Floor: Large train track show Train culture exhibits (food, music, special trains) Interactive ticket machines and gates — a fun simulation of real train travel! Train driver simulation (we didn’t try this time, but next visit for sure!) 3rd Floor: Open-air observation area with trains passing by, including Shinkansen and local trains We didn’t get to the gift shop as it was closed, but overall this was an amazing family day out. Our toddler had so much fun, and we got to learn a lot about the fascinating history of Japanese trains.
