Cleaning a 1940’s rayon satin wedding dress in a hard to find larger size

The power of peroxide! Underarm stains as well as other various stains on the yellowed wedding dress are removed with a combination of products including Retro Wash, Dawn, washing soda, peroxide and baking soda. There was a bit of shrinking that occurred- most notably at the hem ( to the right and the left of the center front) but happily the bust and waist measurements remained the same. I was planning to do a round of soaking in sodium Perborate ( Retro Clean) after the initial Retro Wash soaks, but the dress brightened up so nicely that I just ended up doing a final soak in the rinse water that I saved from rinsing off the Peroxide/ Dawn/ baking soda spot treatments. This 1940’s dress is in a harder to find larger size and I’m happy that it is clean and ready for another special day approximately 80 years later. #vintageclothescleaning #vintageweddingdresscleaning #beforeandafter #howto #oldvintage
