From concept to creation, Wattle is the culmination of over 18 months of intense research and development of a permanent engine testing facility and a hybrid rocket engine. Wattle successfully completed over 16 cold flows and 3 hot fires. Producing a peak thrust of over 1400 N and a total impulse of 12,300 Ns, this is the most powerful SRAD engine USYD Rocketry Team has produced to date. Our entirely student-built permanent engine testing facility allows us to test our current and future engines without requiring significant set-up and infrastructure changes. Our main blast shielding, thrust cell and fluids support structure, coupled with the abundance of sensors on high-frequency data acquisition and control system and our dedicated fluids filling system, ensures the safe operation of our engines. This endeavour would not have been possible without the countless team members dedicating their time to the project and the unwavering support of our sponsors. Together with the support of the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering (AMME), the Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) and the University of Sydney farm at Arthursleigh, we've been able to reach a new milestone in our team's history. Wattle has prepared us for a new challenge, which we can't wait to share!
