• A performance on the mechanics of belief polarization and an exercise in speculative belief.• This film was shown to the “Hidden Observers” prior to taking their seats behind a wall of one-way mirror to watch the on-stage attendees view the performance. - Attendees of “The Attestation” at MIT were, unbeknownst to them, subdivided into three groups. Half of the audience is secretly sequestered to become an audience of ‘Hidden Observers.’ They were seated in the theater seats, hidden behind a wall of one-way mirror that covers the full proscenium of the stage, thus transforming the entire stage into a one-way, interrogation-style room. the other half of the audience was seated onstage to watch the performance, thinking they were the sole viewers of the work, and completely unaware of the Hidden Observers on the other side of the one way mirror. They were not told how many groups the onstage audience had been subdivided into, and what the points of ‘evidence’ in the performance could possibly be building their belief or piquing their scrutiny…thus leading them to speculate wildly about the onstage viewers might be scrutinizing. Cinematography: Ari Isenberg Editing: Jeanette Andrews
