Devil's Den Prehistoric Spring is built around the scuba diver, but it's also great for snorkelers. Diver's have a lot of equipment to carry, so for safety they are given priority on the walkway and entry areas. Divers get a Fastpass to go around any lines straight to the check-in counter, snorkelers will need to register and wait in line. Divers even get to use the pavilions closest to the entry. An EPIC VIEW takes you down the stairway to ample entry platforms for pre dive setup and lots of opportunities of selfies. The middle is like a hill, where you can dive a complete 360 degree lap around and explore the nooks and swimthroughs of the cavern. The dive is much bigger than it looks, with depths of nearly 60 feet in some places. It extends well beyond the waterline under out rock ledge. 72 degrees F year-round, and protection from the wind make this place a perfect winter time diver refuge. Although no cave diving is allowed, we do recommend a light. You only need to be Open Water Certified to do this dive, and this place is super popular for dive classes as well. And great news, they do tank fills, gear rentals, and have a store with all those last-minutes necessities, so that little thing you forgot won't ruin your trip or class. About $40 per diver gets you in, but make sure you sign in with a dive buddy that you actually came with (can't find a random stranger and ask them to join, we've seen that NOT work to a poor Russian tourist who didn't have a Down to 60 to watch first. You'll need some form of scuba certification (app is accepted) unless signing in with an instructor as part of a scuba course. The last water entry is 1hr before closing (5pm). We strongly suggest calling to reserve a pavilion in advance if you can, as well as the pool or cabins for overnight stays. Instructors can rent the pool for teaching scuba lessons at an hourly rate, but it's reservations only so be sure to call ahead. They're open every day of the year except Christmas. Santa Claus and the Devil don't like each other, but rumor has it they're dive buddies (which seems odd, even to us). http://www.devilsden.com 352-528-3344 PS: Devil's Den is only 5 minutes away from Blue Grotto, in the middle of Florida - so they pair nicely for a day trip of diving or a scuba course.
