What Do They Do? Naples Equestrian Challenge provides the most innovative, professional, effective and measurable equine activities and therapies to an expanding group of children and adults with special needs. As a leading regional provider, NEC will become a model of best practices providing the highest quality equine therapy programs and recognized as a leading PATH training and research center. The mission of Naples Equestrian Challenge is to improve the lives of children and adults with special needs through therapeutic riding and other equine-related programs. Naples Equestrian Challenge has expanded its programming to include equine-facilitated learning (EEL) and equine-facilitate psychotherapy (EEP) programs, which has greatly increased the number of participants/riders since 2012. NEC currently conducts 10.5 hours of EEL and EEP programming per week in addition to the 25 hours of Therapeutic Riding programming per week. United Way's support during 2016 will be used for salary allocation to NEC's PATH-Certified Instructors and Equine Specialists. What Their Volunteers Do NEC currently has more than 450 active volunteers. NEC volunteers fill 470 volunteer slots per week working directly in the program with the participants and horses. Volunteer positions include side walking, leading, grooming and tacking of the horses (NEC’s therapeutic riders require three volunteers per rider while in the arena) as well as assisting participants in the EFL and EFP sessions.
