This video presents the 139th Durham Miners Gala Big Meeting & the great speeches of Jeremy Corbyn & other Dignitaries. This massive meeting was held on 12 July 2025 in City of Durham. INTRODUCTION TO DURHAM MINERS' GALA: According to Wikipedia the Durham Miners’ Gala started by Miner Trade Unionists. The first Trade Union established in 1869 and the Miners' Association organised the first Gala, which was held in 1871 at Wharton Park, in Durham. It grew into the a largest unofficial miners and trade-union gathering in the United Kingdom and able to attract more than 300,000 people (more than seven times the population of Durham itself). Banners would traditionally be taken on foot from its particular colliery into Durham and the event usually marked by large Unions of men marching on the Roads leading into the City. The socialist, and often communist, nature of the miners' unionism found expression in the Gala. The banners contain several images of notable socialist and communist figures and captions capture similar sentiments. The Gala was escaped from 1915–18 because of the First World War strikes and from 1940–45 because of the Second World War and again because of COVID in 2019. In 1926 however, the Gala was held outside of Durham City, organised by miners in the village of Burnhope some 7 Miles to the North of Durham itself, this marks the first and only time the Gala has been held in some place other than the City. This high Miners' Gala is a large annual gathering and labour Festival held on the Second Saturday in July in the city of Durham (England). Durham gala is associated with the coal mining heritage of the Durham Coalfield, which stretched throughout the traditional County of Durham. It is also locally called "The Big Meeting" or "Durham Big Meeting”. Its highlight consists of a parade of banners, each typically accompanied by a brass band, which are marched to the old Racecourse, where political speeches are delivered. In the afternoon a Miners' service is held in Durham Cathedral, which may include the blessing of any new banners.
