General Domkat Yah Bali (GCON) (27 February 1940 – 4 December 2020) was a Nigerian Army four-star general and senior statesman best known for his years as Minister of Defence and Chief of Defence Staff during Nigeria’s military era (mid-1980s to 1990). He trained at the Nigerian Military Training College and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, served through the Civil War era, and later held major command and institutional leadership roles, including work connected to professionalizing training and national security structures. He was widely described as a man of loyalty, discipline, and principled restraint. That ethos is why his life reads as servant leadership in uniform: service before self, duty before applause, and leadership measured by what it protects and builds—not what it controls.
