We're rebranding this video to better represent its scope. Tanagers of the Americas 2 — A Global Birding Species Special is the first of our 2 videos on Tanagers and their "cousins." Year or years we photographed the tanagers are in ( ): Belize- 2 species (2016, 2023) Brazil - 13 species (2017) Costa Rica - 6 species (2016, 2018) Ecuador - 15 species (2021) Nicaragua - 1 species (2016) Panama - 6 species (2015) Peru 1 species (2016) and Arizona, USA - 1 species (2014) "TITLE BIRD" is the multi-colored and aptly named Flame-faced Tanager (11:44). Photographed at the Amagusa Reserve in Ecuador October 2021. In our three weeks in Ecuador we saw many birds. See our Ecuador video series to get a broader view. "COVER BIRD" is this amazing Glistening Green Tanager (14:11). Also photographed at the Amagusa Reserve in Ecuador October 2021. It almost looks fake, but it's not! Such a striking color. It took our breath away. So glad we were able to get some great looks! MOST PHOTOGENIC in order of appearance: —Blue-winged Mountain Tanager (04:15) was photographed at Balcón Tumpiki, Ecuador. —Cherries Tanager (06:58) This stunning male Cherries Tanager was photographed at Hotel Talari Birding Lodge in Costa Rica. —Flame-faced Tanager (11:44) and also the Title Bird. This bird and the others featured in this video were photographed either at San Jorge's Sumaco Bajo or at the Amagusa Reserve both in Ecuador. One of the things we love about tanagers is the wide variety of coloration. —Gilt-edged Tanager (13:47) Colorful, beautiful, all the adjectives describe this tanager photographed while birding in Itatiaia National Park in Brazil. —Masked Tanager (19:31). This male Masked Tanager was photographed at San Jorge's Tandayapa Reserve in Ecuador. Such shades of blue, they look like they are painted on. They make a lovely contrast to the dark blue/black of its body. MOST PHOTOGRAPHED bird is the Blue-gray Tanager beginning at (02:55).
