Princeton Hydro's Truxor DM 5000 at Liberty Pond, Peapack-Gladstone, NJ

On May 17th and 18th, Princeton Hydro performed a major clean-up of Liberty Pond with a focus on the mechanical removal of algae mats and accumulated leaf litter and organic matter on the bottom of the pond. Our Truxor DM 500 amphibious vehicle was used to remove this excess organic matter to not only help improve the aesthetics of the Liberty Pond but also improve habitat for the ponds fish, aquatic organisms and other resident wildlife. The high density of aquatic growth present in the pond is due to excessive nutrient (phosphorus and nitrogen) inputs. These nutrients are the result of stormwater runoff, animal waste and the decomposition of the organic material on the bottom of the pond. Removing the excessive aquatic growth and organic debris from the pond also results in the removal of some of the nutrients that fuel the ponds mat algae problems. Also, using the Truxor DM 5000 to mechanically harvest weeds and algae reduces the amount of herbicides and algaecides needed over the course of the summer to control and suppress additional weed and algae growth and that's good news for everyone.
