Telemann – Fantasia No. 30 in C minor, TWV 33:30, II. Vivace Piano study guide with synchronized sheet music and virtual keyboard (Public Domain). Telemann wrote these fantasias to prove that solo instruments could sustain harmony without continuo. This movement is often cited as a precursor to Bach’s solo string rhetoric, though lighter in affect. Performers frequently re-bar the notation for modern readability, especially at speed. Throughout much of the eighteenth century, Georg Philipp Telemann was widely acknowledged as a figure of exceptional authority within European musical life and was frequently regarded by contemporaries as the most prominent composer of his generation. Contemporary discourse consistently positioned him above both established peers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel and younger composers including Johann Adolf Hasse, Carl Heinrich Graun, and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Telemann’s professional standing is particularly evident in the events surrounding the 1723 Leipzig Thomaskantor election, in which the church council unanimously selected him over Bach. Only after extended negotiations with his Hamburg employers—centered on remuneration and institutional autonomy—did Telemann ultimately decline the post, which was subsequently awarded to Bach. #music #pianotutorial #musica #classicalmusic #musiceducation #sheetmusic #PianoForKids #baroque #bach #pianosolo #piano #pianolessons #mozart #beethoven #chopin
