In this section of **Chapter 2**, we finally run our first solver: ✅ *icoFoam* and learn how to **read the terminal output like an engineer**—so you understand what OpenFOAM is doing at every time step. What you’ll learn in this section *1) You must load OpenFOAM first* If you open a fresh terminal and type `icoFoam`, it won’t work until you load the OpenFOAM environment (e.g. **OpenFOAM 23.06**) so the executables are added to your PATH. *2) Running icoFoam + understanding time stepping* We verify that: *3) What’s inside the time folders* Each written time directory typically contains: *U**, **p**, and **phi* a *uniform/* folder with time-step metadata optional *functionObjects/* (empty here, since we didn’t define any) *4) Courant number, residuals, and solvers used* At every time step, OpenFOAM prints: mean/max *Courant number* solver progress for *U* and *p* (residuals + iterations) continuity errors Because we use *PISO* with *nCorrectors = 2**, pressure is corrected multiple times, and the final correction uses **pFinal* settings for stricter convergence. *5) Save the solver output to a log file* We run the solver in a way that captures everything for later review: This saves the full run history (Courant numbers, residuals, iterations, settings behavior) inside **log.solve**, which is extremely useful for debugging and validation. In the next section, we move to *ParaView post-processing* and start visualizing the results.
