In part 1 of our journey to deep rural Jamaica, we chatted with Trishawna, Keisha and Maya - strawberry and poultry farmers whose enterprises were destroyed by hurricane Beryl ( • The lady bosses determined to triumph over... ). After collecting supplies financed by UNDP, they showed us the devastation left by the hurricane, and explained how disasters impact women and women with disabilities. In this Part 2, UNDP hits the road to check on their progress, weeks after donating grants and supplies under a partnership arrangement with the Bureau of Gender Affairs and the Jamaica Network of Rural Women Producers. We found businesses and markets recovered and a strong determination to build back better than ever. This is what happens when donors, governments and NGOs partner to tailor recovery support to vulnerable groups facing crisis. Support is not just about grants and inputs. It's about the type of inputs, the delivery of the support and the capacity building to withstand crisis. Support matters. Gender responsive support matters more and is more effective in shaping a more resilient economy.
