Learning by doing :: MPI -- Collective Communications In MPI, Part 2

This video is part of the new series called "Learning by doing :: MPI" which serves as an introductory course on MPI (Message Passing Interface). In this video we talked about collective communications in MPI! This topic corresponds to chapter 6 of the MPI standard v4.1. It is a lengthy chapter with a lot of information to digest. We followed the same pattern as for "Datatypes in MPI" by dividing a chapter into digestible 20-25 mins long parts. In part 2 we continued our discussion by the last point we made at the end of part 1 namely all to all category of operations have a bidirectional nature while one to all or all to one category of operations have a unidirectional nature to them. Then we started talking about our first collective communication operation MPI_Barrier! Semantics for collective communication operations were considered in two scenarios once with intra-communicator scenario and once with inter-communicator scenario. By the end of this video we talked about MPI_Bcast (intra and inter semantics) + MPI_Gather(intra semantics).
