After the town of Altadena was evacuated and most of it left to burn, this is a drive-by of two blocks along Calaveras, Raymond and Harriett, at around 4pm on Jan. 8, 2025. Little did I know the 80% of the entire town burned down. #eatonfire #altadenafire #altadena Side note: My 🧡 is with Altadena: all the people who called it home, still call it home, died, survived, the town, trees, structures, history, nature. A year ago, the fire ignited and the intense hurricane-like winds blew it chaotically around the area. No one expected it to creep into the city and cross major streets like Lake, Woodbury, Fair Oaks. People grabbed their to-go bags and expected to come back, fully expecting the fire department to handle things while they were evacuated, dutifully leaving hoses out conspicuously on their front lawns. Instead, for whatever reasons*, for the entirety of the catastrophic event, Altadena was left to burn. I was on the ground there at 9am, and again 3pm, and heard not one fire engine. To be clear, the winds had already died down, but the whole town was silently burning down, crackling away. At around 4pm, I heard a sound: airplanes in the sky. They were headed into the mountains to put out more fire, but by then the damage to Altadena had been done. I took a drive around and this is what I saw. *Reasons still need to be investigated, not covered up.
