Police Shoot Suspect After Pursuit - Ceres, California

Early this morning just after 2:00 a.m. officers with the Ceres Police Department were dispatched to a Del Taco Restaurant on Mitchell Rd. near E. Whitmore Ave. in Ceres, California for a report of 2 men in a fight, one of them armed with a rock. When police arrived on the scene they found the men fighting in the parking lot. They gave the two men orders to stop fighting. When they did, one of the men complied while the other jumped in a vehicle and fled the scene. It is unclear at this time if that man was the one with the rock or not. While one officer stayed with the man at Del Taco, other officers began a police pursuit with the suspect who fled. The suspect drove into a nearby neighborhood commonly referred to as the Eastgate Neighborhood by Ceres residents, as Eastgate Blvd. runs through it. Within minutes the suspect turned onto Belleza Ct. about a mile away from where the chase began. Officers used a pit maneuver to try and end the pursuit. The suspect was stopped in the court. When officers approached the vehicle they opened fire on the man in the car. The exact reasons for the shooting have not yet been released and are still being determined. The suspect was hit in the shoulder suffering a non-life-threatening injury. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. He was given first-aid on the scene before being transported to an area hospital for further treatment. His formal charges are being determined this morning by the Ceres Police Department and the Stanislaus District Attorney's Office. No others were injured during the pursuit and shooting. No further information was released in regards to the original fight call.
