Jinhao 51A The Jinhao 51 A with a hooded steel EF nib. The pen is a standard issue one which will fit into most hands and is fairly pleasurable to write with. The dimensions are more or less ranged around the mean which makes it ideally suited for the mass market: Length:139mm; Diameter:12mm; Net weight:21g. The Jinhao 51 A has acrylic body and is fitted with a steel cap with a springy, robust clip. The cap can be posted and for those who prefer a bottom-heavy pen, it offers a good option. The cap is push type; while it comes fitted with a regulation Jinhao screw-type converter. It also takes cartridges. This is one of those pens that costs little and returns a lot more in terms of functionality – a trait that is almost becoming synonymous with Chinese pens in general and Jinhao pens in particular. I must confess, however, that I had bought this pen on a whim, only because it looked pretty attractive and had caught my fancy. I have been using it for the last couple of days and have no reason to complain. It writes without a skip or a burp, does not dry out when left unused for fairly long spells (I have tried 3 days) and is a decent worker as a daily carry pen. Students and regular users will find it a handy companion. Chinese pens seem to arouse the most extreme kinds of passion among fountain pen aficionados. While some swear by them, some hate them for all they are worth. The point that needs to be underscored, however, is simple – these are very good pens in the price brackets in which they are offered and are generally competition slayers. It will not be out of place to point out that Jinhao has not created for itself the kind of global reputation for nothing.
