Usually access is possible twice a day - at dawn and at sunset, when the water level allows for passage. Life here, as in other remote northern villages, is characterized by simplicity and depends on natural conditions. Residents engage in traditional activities such as fishing and gathering seafood, which play an important role both in the local economy and in everyday nutrition. Gardening is also common, despite the harsh climate. Everyday life preserves traditional elements of the northern Russian way of life. The village has a tradition of neighborly mutual assistance and collective efforts to solve common problems, for example, preparing firewood or repairing infrastructure. Crafts that have been passed down from generation to generation, such as wood carving or boat making, can often be found here. Due to the difficulties with transportation, the delivery of food and other goods can be irregular and dependent on the road conditions and weather conditions. In winter, when the sea surface is covered with ice, access to the village can be even more limited. This encourages residents to be thrifty and more autonomous. Infrastructure is minimal: there is no medical care, but there is a primary school and one store, which requires residents to adapt to the lack of familiar amenities. There is no Internet or mobile phone coverage, and people communicate with the mainland using a pay phone. Despite the obvious difficulties, life here can be calm and measured, with less influence from the bustle of the city and technological stress.
