It is located on the north bank of the Schweriner See. Bad Kleinen is part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Introduced between 1968 and 1979, the Class 218 was the culmination of several prototype series that aimed to modernize diesel traction for the newly formed Deutsche Bundesbahn. With a power output of around 2,060 kW and a maximum speed of 140 km/h, the locomotive offered strong acceleration, reliability, and versatility, making it suitable for both passenger and lighter freight duties.
