A few weeks ago I posted the other side 'The Whistling Waiter' for my friend and fellow YouTuber Paul Harrison https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM5I... Please check out his channel. Paul is my go to tuber for anything music hall. This claims to be 'Mouth Whistling' but it sounds more like a tin whistle to me but Mr Charles Capper was a professional whistler, here is an interview with him from Cassal's Family Magazine from 1895 https://www.victorianvoices.net/ARTIC... An excerpt from The Masonic Review of September 1889 reads "Mr. Charles Capper, the clever young whistler who delighted thc Essex Masons so much at the Provincial Grand Lodge at Dunmow last month , is a brother of Bro. Alfred Capper, well known as a "light " entertainer of repute. He holds an appointment in one of the City insurance offices, and refuses to relinquish it in favor of his whistle, for fear the latter should get out of fashion. A curious gift with him is his ability to whistle without the aid of his lips or teeth , and to produce an echo effect positively charming. Mr. Capper is engaged at Her Majesty 's during the present season, and lives with his people at Bedford Park." 'Les Folies' was composed by French pianist and composer Émile Waldteufel in 1878. Waldteufel became a favourite of The Prince Of Wales and his compositions were played for Queen Victoria at Buckingham Palace, so interesting to see the Royal Warrant on this record, the warrant was for Whiteley's. Waldteufel retired in 1899 and died in Paris in 1915 aged 77. Whiteleys was London's first department store opening in 1911. Around 1910 or 1911 they started producing their own label records. They differed from the usual records of the time as they were oversized 10½" also because Whiteleys had a Royal Warrant the label uniquely carries the royal coat of arms and 'By Special Appointment To His Majesty The King'. These records are scarce.
