"Our research seeks to explore how the female immune system evaluates the compatibility of a male partner. Genetic differences between parents can improve reproductive outcomes and have significant implications for human reproductive health, livestock animal industries, and endangered species conservation. Our research aims to investigate the role of the female immune system in assessing the compatibility of the male partner. In particular, we are interested in how maternal immune cells called T cells can sense and respond to molecules called histocompatibility antigens that are inherited from the father and expressed on placental cells. My PhD study aims to identify the most important molecules that influence the female immune response and define how maternal T cells contribute to this process. Findings from this project will help us understand how the female can selectively invest reproductive resources into pregnancy and lead to improved offspring fitness according to these father-specific molecules. Ultimately, this will provide innovative solution to improve reproductive success in many species where mating compatibility is a huge issue." https://www.adelaide.edu.au/robinson-...
