Iranian-backed fighters from Iraq have entered northern Syria to fight for Bashar Al Assad. Reuters reported that hundreds of Iran-aligned Iraqi Hashd al Shaabi fighters are to take on HTS. Iraqi fighters, reportedly to be sent to the frontline in Syria, including Iraq’s Katiab Hezbollah and Fatemiyoun groups. Iran sent thousands of Shia fighters to Syria during the Syrian civil war in 2013. Alongside Russia with its air power enabled Assad to regain most of his territory.
