The ‘Right care, first time, where you live’ Program held its final 2025 Annual Symposium in December. We’d like to thank the participants on the day for making it such an engaging and impactful day. From the outset the ‘Right care, first time, where you live’ Program set out to develop a tool that had the ambitious goal of changing the youth mental health system in Australia. At our final symposium, with six of our participating regions, we have been able to see our vision to begin to come to fruition. Together with the help and support of these incredible and passionate PHNs and communities we have been able to develop systems modelling tools that can be taken forward and used to improve the mental health system in their regions. Julie Sturgess, CEO of Country to Coast PHN, really nails it when she says: I think ‘Right care, first time, where you live’ has been such an amazing development for mental health in the Australian context. You know, the way I've seen it develop over the last few years from, you know, a seed of an idea into literally both a Program with supporting structures, but actually also the technology and tools that are going to allow people on the front line to do things differently. Are going to allow funders and policymakers to make decisions differently. And I think, you know, we will look back from the future at some point and go, thank God that we had, you know, a group of thinkers that came together to do things differently based on evidence, that informed the services that we deliver in this country to improve mental health outcomes”. Thank you to everyone who participated on the day particularly our wonderful Youth Reference Group for sharing their wisdom. We’d also like to thank the Brain and Mind Centre team for organising such a wonderful event. This Program was proudly supported by the BHP Foundation.
