Gooches Crater - Newnes Plateau - Lithgow - 4K

Goochs Crater is located out on the Newnes Plateau to the south east of Lithgow. It is an easy 20-25 minute walk from a 4WD accessible parking spot, which is along Dumbano Fire Trail, at the end of a short walking track. If you don't have a 4WD, you will need to walk an additional 7kms or so from the 2WD parking spot. This walk is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and is well defined. The walk is quite nice through typical Australian bush and open ridge tops and hills. First discovered in 1978 and named after Nicolas Gooch, it is a popular walking and camping destination. There are a number of great camping spots including a massive overhang, just around the corner from the crater.
