WIFE Project Field Story | Izombe, Imo State Izombe, a major oil-producing community in Imo State, has hosted oil companies since 1976. Yet many women in Aborshi Autonomous Community continue to face limited economic opportunities. In this episode, we spotlight Dr. Nkiruka Ihesie, Coordinator of the Izombe Centre LSD Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Ltd and a member of the WIFE Project. Through Centre LSD’s Livelihood Support Training for Women in Frontline Extractive Communities (WIFE), a 15-member cooperative was established with a structured revolving loan system. Key Highlights: • 15-member cooperative • 3-month screening period to ensure commitment • First 6 members have accessed loans • Increased business stock and profits • Strong emphasis on savings culture • Plans for vocational training (soap making, zobo production) Beneficiaries include foodstuff traders, a nurse running a chemist shop, a dry meat seller, and a beer parlour owner — all reporting increased income and stability. The WIFE Project continues to demonstrate how cooperative-led models can drive economic empowerment in frontline extractive communities. #WIFEProject #CentreLSD #ImoState #WomenEconomicEmpowerment #ImpactStories
