Kono District is positioned in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Koidu Town is the capital and largest city, also known as Sefadu and is Sierra Leone's fourth-largest city in Sierra Leone. The population of Kono District is 505,767 as of the (2015) censor. Kono is the largest diamond producer in Sierra Leone and has produced about nine million carats of diamonds over the years, including some of the world's biggest diamonds. Koidu Town is the diamond trading centre. The town borders Guinea in the east and is adjacent to the Liberian border. Motema is the second-most populated city in the Kono district.
