Trial of State v. Michael S. Bortolini Trial Day 1 - October 23, 2023 On Wednesday, December 13th, Michael Sergio Bortolini, 51, of Vancouver, WA was sentenced by a Clark County judge to 90 months to life in prison. Bortolini, raped a woman (“Erin”) following a date on August 27, 2021. He met her on Bumble, a dating website. The two had chatted for a few weeks before meeting up for dinner and a movie. The survivor said NO, but Bortolini did not respect her request. She went into survival mode and immediately called 911 when she was safe from him. An ambulance rushed her to PeaceHealth where for over 10 hours she was seen by nurses and doctors including a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) who sent her kit to WSP Crime Lab. In the meantime, the survivor pressed charges and received a protective order, then waited. The survivor, a beautiful young woman, has had her life turned upside down. Despite numerous attempts to continue delaying the trial in hopes the victim would drop the case, Bortolini chose to revictimize the survivor pushing for a trial so he could have his day in court and be heard. Despite a plea offer, this rapist wanted his day in court and in October of this year, he was found guilty by the same jury he selected with his attorney. Only 1% of rapists ever get a Rape 2 Felony charge nationally, Bortolini, was convicted of Rape 2 Class A Felony. When her rape kit was backlogged for over seven months, National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) was retained by “Erin.” After numerous delay tactics by the defendant, she retained attorney Josephine Townsend. NWCAVE and Ms. Townsend believe there may be others who may have been assaulted by Bortolini in Washington and Oregon. If you or someone you know was assaulted in the past or present by Michael S. Bortolini, please call Townsend Law at (360) 694-7601 or email NWCAVE at info@nwcave.org. For resources, visit www.NWCAVE.org/help or www.rainn.org To speak with someone, call 800-656-HOPE (4673).
