For this stream: 1500 most common Chinese characters: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/15909... --------------------------------- One goal: be able to speak Chinese so I can talk to my girlfriend's parents Learned the 4 tones ✅ Learned Pinyin (Chinese characters written with the alphabet) ✅ Listened to the audiobook “Learn Mandarin Chinese with Paul Noble” ✅ Learned the meaning of around 300 Chinese characters ✅ Learned numbers up until 99 ✅ Learned the months ✅ Learned to form basic Chinese sentences ✅ Learned how to negate sentences ✅ Learned how to answer in Chinese ✅ Realized I need to actually learn how to read Chinese characters as well and not only the Pinyin ✅ Learned how to "read" Chinese characters (actually not that hard) ✅ Learned the 15 types of vegetables in chinese ✅ What I still need to learn: ~2,700 Chinese characters - how to read them and meaning, basic everyday vocabulary Listening comprehension - understanding slow, clear speech in daily conversations Speaking skills - introducing myself, answering simple questions, making small talk, speech is understandable Measure words (optional) - common ones used in everyday conversation (个, 本, 件, etc.) How to count - up until 1 million We're not going to learn: How to actually write the Chinese characters ❌ Other accents ❌ Cantonese variant ❌ ------------------------------------- Resources I use: Anki - Flashcards to memorize Chinese characters Pleco - The holy grail of Chinese learning. Used as a dictionary and also figuring out the radicals in Chinese characters Hanly - Actually better than Pleco in terms of figuring out the composition of Chinese characters so we gonna be using that now. Zhongwen - Chrome extension to show pinyin and meaning of Chinese characters when hovering over with mouse DuChinese - For reading short and easy stories (in Chinese) to reinforce the Chinese characters memorization and grammar usage (use it or lose it principle) ChineseGrammarWiki - Amazing resource for anything Grammar related
