Here is Natalie's track for this song. In the released film, all of her singing was replaced by Jackie Ward except for the first four bars. The audio track was taken from Screen Archive's fantastic new two-CD set. If you're an Andre Previn fan, be sure to pick one up - the sound is amazing, and it's a limited edition of only 3,000 copies: http://www.screenarchives.com/title_d... From Natalie: There was also a scene where they left just half a song in and I found that very painful. I'd like to do a musical again, but I want an absolute guarantee that the songs, sung by me, stay in the picture. From Jackie Ward: Natalie Wood was doing a movie called "Inside Daisy Clover." Well, that's not her singing, it's me. Andre Previn wrote the music. The director said I sounded absolutely gorgeous, but not right for the character, who was sort of a street kid who has a raw talent but is not polished. So I had to go back in, re-record it and make it sound not so good. Natalie wanted to sing it herself, and she tried to do it. Apparently, it was really bad. I had heard stories before I came in and auditioned, but who really knows what to believe? They auditioned about 200 singers and I had an inkling of what they wanted. She never wanted to meet me. Never wanted to know anything about me. She didn't want to know I even existed. It was kind of sad. I didn't know this 'til later. I went in and recorded live with the full orchestra. After I finished, they played it back and the orchestra was applauding me. I couldn't figure it out. Then Andre told me that Natalie had evidently tried to sing it earlier. The orchestra was so thrilled that someone came in who could sing it, that they applauded!
