I first became aware of him thanks to his collaborations with Steve Roden, Anla Curtis and Jaap Blonk, but his output is so prolific and varied that you have most likely come across his work if you are at all interested in experimental electronic music. This release is one of my (many) favorites of his-a life album from 2007. The first track was recorded at the Toneelschuur in Haarlem on April 1st, 2007, and the second was recorded at the Cross Street Chappel in Manchester on May 21st of the same year. Both shows have the same equipment setup: guitar being run through various effects pedals. Other than this throughline, though, the performances could not be more different. Without giving too much away, the intense, quasi-organesque violence of the first set serves as a great counterpart to the celestial peaks of the second.
