The Rainbow Bridge border crossing in Niagara Falls has reopened following a car crash and explosion on the American side of the border that killed two people. U.S. Customs tweeted just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday that the Rainbow Bridge has now reopened to traffic. Security footage of the crash shows a car in New York State travelling at an extremely high rate of speed before hitting a median and going airborne. The car then collided with a border control booth and burst into flames, injuring the person inside the booth and killing both occupants of the car. Initially, there were concerns the crash was terror related but the F.B.I. confirmed in a statement that they found no connection to terrorism or explosive material at the scene. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said there was “no indication of a terrorist attack” in the vehicle crash and explosion. The pair who died are believed to be husband and wife. Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati says the Rainbow Bridge may reopen this weekend.
