Bruno Rosa on "Pan-intestinal capsule endoscopy as first-line procedure in patients with suspected mid or lower gastrointestinal bleeding" A prospective study including 100 patients with suspected mid–lower gastrointestinal bleeding assessed the accuracy of pan-intestinal capsule endoscopy (PCE) compared with colonoscopy for diagnosis of potentially hemorrhagic lesions (PHLs). PHLs were diagnosed in 46 patients. PHLs were correctly identified in 96% (44/46) by PCE and in 50% (23/ 46) by colonoscopy (P less than 0.01). Furthermore, PCE could have allowed avoidance of invasive procedures in more than half of patients (54%). It was concluded that PCE could potentially be a first-line examination in patients with suspected mid–lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
