3. Tibet Bread 4. Pancake 5. 【用餐小建議】 •自備酒精小噴瓶, 避免手沾到細菌, 吃了拉肚子 •提早點餐,廚房做菜通常40分鐘起跳 •腸胃藥 止瀉止吐必備, 我們有一兩天腸胃有不舒服,拉肚子 猜測是醃製的菜有壞掉(炒飯、菜湯、Dal Bhat 有時會放) 以上簡單分享🙏 Route: EBC + GOKYO LAKE, 22 days Time: Early December to late December Group: Four people (son and mom) + guide and porters Regarding food on this trip, I categorize it into three sections: 1. Food from Taiwan Two people brought 16kg of food to ensure we wouldn't go hungry during our 40-day trip in Nepal, which included 1-2kg visits to Chitwan and Pokhara. I know 16kg sounds like a lot, but it proved to be worthwhile. This ensured we could enjoy our meals in the mountains and have more flexibility. My favorite snack was Pea Crackers可樂果 from Taiwan. Almond & dried fish was highly recommended and very tasty. My mom loved the nutritional bars (similar to emergency rations). Fisherman’s Friend throat lozenges were delicious and very soothing for coughs (available locally but cheaper online in Taiwan). Gummy candies were great but beware of cavities. Lots of chocolate (Snickers, KitKat, M&Ms). 2. Meals in the Mountains From Lukla at 2800m to Gorakshep at 5100m, the menus were quite similar, with 90% consisting of fried rice, fried noodles, noodle soup, pasta, pizza, spring rolls, sandwiches, burgers, MOMO dumplings, salads, toast, pancakes, porridge, mashed potatoes, and fried potatoes. Tips: Meals can be customized! (I visited during the off-season; it might be different in peak season). Adjust salt, spice, sauces, pepper, add vegetables, or request eggs cooked a certain way (well done, soft, etc.). Know what you can eat and communicate with the kitchen. For example, my mom always asked for no chili, black pepper, or ketchup in her fried rice and noodles. Each teahouse's cooking varies greatly, so keep your expectations low and be ready for surprises! You can request fruit even if it's not on the menu if you're not feeling up to regular meals. Avoid meat after Namche Bazaar unless you're sure it's fresh. We ate meat a few times in Dingboche and Gokyo Lake because we knew it had just arrived by helicopter that day. My Favorite Dishes: Noodle Soup: A hot bowl with an egg in the morning is perfect, even if you have a poor appetite. Boiled Eggs/Fried Eggs/Apples: Two boiled eggs every morning were a great source of protein and became essential later on. Tibetan Bread Pancakes Dal Bhat: Local dish with usually unlimited refills on everything but the meat and bread. Hot lentil soup over rice, paired with mildly spicy curry and vegetables, was very filling. The taste varies by teahouse, but most were good. 3. Side Dishes and Drinks Soup: We didn't try many soups, but the garlic soup was outstanding. We had it in Thangna (a village after crossing Cho La Pass). The broth was as thick and aromatic as ramen. If anyone's interested, I can share the teahouse's name. The best Tibetan Bread of the trip was also from there! Note: Guides often recommend garlic soup at high altitudes, as locals believe it prevents altitude sickness. Pies & Cakes: Mostly too sweet and soft for my taste, but I enjoyed the carrot cake in Gokyo. Recommended: Orange juice made from powder was surprisingly tasty. #Dining Tips •Bring an alcohol bottle to avoid germs and stomach issues. •Order meals early, as cooking usually takes at least 40 minutes (longer during peak season). •Carry medicine for stomach issues and diarrhea. We had a couple of days with stomach problems, likely from spoiled pickled vegetables in fried rice, vegetable soup, or Dal Bhat. That’s my brief sharing!
