On the theme: “Driving Change: Building Accountable Environments for Sustainable Social Justice – Economic, Political, Social and Legal Pathways” The first commitment of the Copenhagen declaration stated: “We commit ourselves to creating an economic, political, social, cultural and legal environment that will enable people to achieve social development”. At the World Summit for Social Development (WSSD), global leaders pledged to eradicate poverty, ensure decent work, and achieve social inclusion. Yet, millions of people—including youth, women, Indigenous communities, refugees, and those in the Least Developed Countries—continue to face systemic exclusion and economic marginalisation. These promises have not materialised, leaving entire generations behind, while global challenges such as the climate crisis and digitalisation have multiplied.
