Written by Kurt in autumn of 1988, "Negative Creep" was recorded for "Bleach" by Jack Endino during the sessions at Reciprocal Recording in December 1988 and January 1989. It is the only recording on the album and one of the very few in Nirvana's catalogue that ends with a fade-out. And this is the only studio recording of "Negative Creep". "Negative Creep" was debuted live in February 1989 in Seattle. The song remained a setlist regular for the next four years, until its final live performance in 1993 in San Francisco. It was jammed on briefly during Nirvana's "MTV Unplugged" appearance in November 1993, after being requested by an audience member, but both Kurt and Krist said that they no longer knew how to play it.
