With Better weather expected soon; get prepared to join me as I go in search of the most exciting subject matter. But before we go outside in the En Plein Air, or Open Air to paint - we better have practiced capturing the mood as fast as possible. What I have found by painting outside vs. in the studio, is that conditions change so quickly, your work can get confused in comparison to the subject before you. Light changes rapidly and so does the colour. So teaching yourself to ignore the nuances of form and the exactness of detail and instead focus just on producing fast, vibrant colour that can at first set the mood and at the very end, establish some explanation of what it was you were looking at. This is the discipline that differentiated the impressionist from all other artists before them. And it is this rapid approach to capturing colour and a lessor focus on detail that makes impressionism what it is. So, watch me literally throw colour recklessly on canvas to demonstrate how we can establish or capture the mood that compelled us to paint the image in the first place. Disregard detail in this lesson.
